The aim of this study is to locate potential communication relays/space vehicles in the interstellar space in the general area where the center of the Galaxy resides, because this could be an ideal location for extraterrestrial purposes in telecommunications within the Galaxy. Seven observing runs of roughly 3 d each were made from September 1982 until May 1983, in a program to scan slowly a band of sky in search for strongly linearly polarized radio signals from any such extraterrestrial intelligence. A total of 200 h were spent at the wavelength of 2.82 cm, with a sensitivity of a few times 10 to the-20th W/sq m. This value corresponds to a transmitted power of a few times 100 TW/Hz at the distance of the Galactic center.
