A lunar occultation of the cool carbon star T Cancri was observed with the TIRGO infrared telescope at the wavelength of 2.2 microns, and near-infrared photometric measurements were obtained close to the data of the event. A detailed analysis of the occultation data was performed by means of two different reduction methods, allowing an accurate determination of the angular diameter of the central star and a qualitative investigation of a possible very compact circumstellar shell (FWHM diameter about 30 milliseconds of arc). Basic physical parameters for the central and the surrounding shell are derived and compared with the predictions of theoretical models.
