Vibrational recurrences represent a new and powerful tool in spectroscopy. They seem specifically interesting in the case of overlapping vibrational transitions close to the dissociation limit where vibrational motion and rotational motion still exhibit different time scales and can be separated by temporal experiments. The use of the appropriate laser pulses in duration and bandwidth is crucial. The further advantage of these measurements is the additional degree of freedom provided by the probe laser to enhance or attenuate vibrational movements, not possible with a single laser experiment. The continuity of the excitation above the dissociation limit allows for the observation of trapped movements such as the internal rotation above the dissociation. Time decay measurements thus allow the characterization of these resonances.
