The first observation of the fourth vibrational overtone (Delta v = 5) transition of molecular hydrogen at about 524.6 nm is reported. Measurements of an almost complete set of the third overtone (Delta v = 4) of parahydrogen are also reported, including data on the S4(0) transition. The data are considered of significant interest for identifying wavelength regions in the visible for spectroscopic observations of molecular hydrogen absorption in the atmospheres of the giant planets.
