The Cosmos-731 diffuse gamma-ray experiment is described and results of observations are presented. The diffuse gamma radiation in the region of the Milky Way observed was isotropic and its intensity was of the order of 2.5 + or - 0.6 x 10 to the -5th quanta/sq cm-s-sr. In the region observed, no local sources with fluxes exceeding 10 to the -5th quanta/sq cm-s were discovered.
