This paper introduces the recent progress in the study of solar X-ray bursts, one of the high-energy solar flares. The main contents are the following: (1) the longitudinal distribution of the hard X-ray bursts on the sun, (2) the periods of occurrence of high-energy flares observed in several energy ranges, (3) the classification of solar X-ray flares, (4) the energy release and its transport from the energy release site in the corona to the region of X-ray emission in the lower corona and chromosphere, (5) the general process of X-ray flares. Finally, the author presents several viewpoints for further investigations of solar X-ray flares.
