Spitzer has unveiled a population of obscured QSOs whose fraction among all mid-infrared selected AGNs is higher than the fraction of obscured AGNs found at optical and X-ray wavelengths. Multi-wavelength observations of these mid-infrared selected obscured QSOs indicate that a sizable fraction of them are not obscured by the putative torus, but by cold dust outside the torus, and that the torus opening angle increases at higher luminosities, supporting the receding torus scenario. We propose to study the MIR spectra of a complete sample of obscured QSOs at 1.31 dex in luminosity.
