Using published ZAMS-models for OB stars it is shown that a galactic metallicity gradient introduces significant systematic errors to the stellar distances and hence the rotational velocities. As a result, the true rotation curve of the outer Galaxy may be flat, thus requiring a smaller contribution of dark matter to the galactic potential than inferred from the steep rise of the observed rotation curve.
