We present observations of the optically faint Western limb of the supernova remnant N49 obtained with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE). The O VI 1032,1038Å doublet lines are detected in these spectra. The O VI fluxes together with the limits on the optical flux allow us to constrain the properties of the shock producing the emission. In particular we place limits on the contribution of fast non-radiative shocks to the OVI emission. We combine these measurements with measurements from earlier FUSE observations of N49, which targeted the optically bright regions, and estimate the total OVI emission from the remnant.
