A hamiltonian formalism is adopted in the calculation of the nutation of
the figure axis using the PERM rheological parameters. The results show
that the method is feasible. The effect of the elastic mantle on the
nutation is only of the order of milliseconds, and is much smaller than
the effect of the liquid core.
