A finite difference model is used to study the three-dimensional circulation of the Venus atmosphere. The model takes into account the effect of slow planetary rotation, which leads into an uneven planetary distribution of solar energy absorption, the effects of atmospheric mechanical and thermal inertia, and the opacity of the atmosphere to long-wave radiation which results in turbulent vertical heat transfer. The greenhouse effect is discussed in detail.
