Surface photometry of the comet ‘/1976 R1( West) plates was carried out. The surface brightness distribution in the streams in the ion tail of the comet is compared to model calculations. The diffusion model of ion tails was used in the calculations. The upper limits of the lifetime of luminous particles and the magnetic field induction in the tail and the lower limits of the diffusion coefficients are estimated.
