The formation of galaxies is still an area full of unknowns. In this research, we simulate the evolution of the gas component in a quiescent, isolated disk system. We start with a simple exponential disk in a fixed dark matter potential motivated by cosmological simulations. At first, only gas was included in the disk. Then, star formation and feedback mechanisms were added in order to examine the resulting structure of the gas, paying particular attention to the formation of disk instabilities. In order to resolve the shocks and multi-phase interstellar medium that result, we use an adaptive mesh refinement method.
