An effective nuclear force of the Skyrme type is proposed that is well suited for describing the nuclear matter in the presupernova core of a nascent neutron star. Results obtained using the proposed Skyrme force, called RATP, are compared with those obtained through the use of three other Skyrme forces. It is shown that both RATP and the Skyrme force known as T6 are equally valuable in the study of hot and/or dense nuclear matter.
