This paper proposes that the great uncertainty in making contact with extraterrestrial civilizations can be reduced to three factors (distance, angle, time) by synchronization of call signals with nova or supernova outbursts. The time required for terrestrial reception of call signals synchronized with the outburst of Nova Cygni 1975 is computed for 22 stars. The results indicate that terrestrial detection of such signals should be possible beginning on October 25, 1975 for 61 Cygni; February 9, 1976, for Ross 248; September 15, 1978, for Barnard's star; in March 1984 for Lalande 21185; January 1987 for Tau Ceti; and June 1988 for Epsilon Eridani. It is suggested that the best chances for successful reception would be from the direction of the nova vicinity, while the best chances for successful transmission would be in the antipodal direction (i.e., toward Vela).
