A model for the generation of a magnetic field by Rossby vortices is considered. The north-south asymmetry in the rotation of the solar magnetic fields is numerically simulated by specifying a Rossby cyclone and anticyclone in different solar hemispheres at the initial instant of time. The rotation of the nonaxisymmetric magnetic-field components is shown to be in qualitative agreement with experimental data for solar cycle 21, when the north-south asymmetry was most pronounced.
