Attention is given to the normal modes of a sequence of differentially rotating and inviscid polytropic fluid disks in the Bardeen approximation, where the equilibrium isentropic self-gravitating disks have comparable pressure and rotational support. The disks are secularly and dynamically stable at the low angular momentum end of the sequence, while possessing two dynamically unstable modes and two extra, secularly unstable modes at the high end. A classification scheme based on criteria which include winding numbers in phase diagrams is introduced for the identified p- and r-modes. Dynamical instability emerges through p-modes in a disk whose ratio rho of kinetic to potential energy is 0.27. The r-modes are never unstable.
