The mid-ultraviolet spectrum of 138 early type stars was studied for classification purpose. Three parameters were used: the intrinsic color, and the strength of the Fe II feature at 2548 A and the Fe III feature at 2078 A. Seventeen stars, which are considered normal on basis of their visual spectrum, have an anomalous UV spectrum. Fourteen of them are in the southern hemisphere which suggests that the search for peculiarities in the visual spectrum of the southern stars is considerable less complete than for northern stars. The seventeen stars are identified and a possible explanation for the peculiarity is discussed.
