We present a class of gauge models where the phase angle associated with a parameter that breaks a U(1) global symmetry softly receives no renormalization correction due to quantum effects. As application of this idea, we consider recently proposed solutions to the strong-CP problem using softly broken Peccei-Quinn symmetry and clarify the conditions under which it works. We also extend our discussion to some new models.
