The effects of nonlinear mode interaction and period shifts in observed double-mode Cepheids are investigated with a detailed analysis of a mixed-mode pulsation model. Derived periods and mean constituent light curves agree very well with the pure-mode nonlinear results and with the linear periods. Complete stability analyses indicate that low-mass Cepheid models show aperiodic mixed-mode behavior near the red edge of the instability strip as well as a mode switch near the center of the strip. It is proposed that these cases could be distinguished observationally, although available evidence favors the stable mixed-mode configuration for known double-mode Cepheids. These results are consistent with a mass for these objects that is much smaller than the expected Cepheid mass for the observed period range.
