The paper examines the motion of high-energy particles in the geomagnetic dipole field under conditions when the adiabatic approximation is inapplicable. A semiqualitative analytical theory for the interaction between rotational and vibrational motions is developed to describe the motion of such particles in the dipole field at Delta mu/mu approximately equal to 1, where mu is the magnetic moment of a particle. Numerical results are compared with analytical results.
