Solar Oscillations

Scientific paper

The nonadiabatic frequencies of a standard solar model are discussed. Nonadiabatic effects associated with the radiative losses and convective transfer add small imaginary parts, σi(1) and σi(2), to solar p-mode eigenfrequencies. An asymptotic approximation to the nonadiabatic nonradial p-modes of the Sun is developed. An exact solution of nonadiabatic oscillations, which results in an eigenfrequency equation with a model-dependent surface phase shift, is assumed in the outermost layers, where the asymptotic description is invalid.
