We teach an astrobiology general education course each semester at Joliet Junior College, IL. Over 40 students enroll in the course each semester at this community college. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of astrobiology and to enable students to explore the course material more deeply, we offer two group projects each semester. One project is related to Mars, while the other deals with extrasolar planets. Students make poster projects which are displayed in the college for all to enjoy.
In Fall 09, students were asked for their feedback on these projects. Based on their responses, in Spring 10, small changes were made to the assignments. Spring 10 students will be surveyed to find out how they feel about such projects. We will provide details of the projects and the results of both Fall 09 and Spring 10 surveys. We will attempt to gauge the effect that the minor alterations had on these assignments.
