Vertical propagation of internal gravity waves (IGWs) generated by tropospheric convection throughout the middle atmosphere under two cases of realistic zonal winds, a summer easterly condition and an additional prescribed background diurnal tidal wind condition are simulated using a non-hydrostatic compressible nonlinear two-dimensional numerical model. Generation of the weak zonal wind layer around the mesopause due to the IGWs breakdown, filtering of the IGWs in the zonal winds, and the interaction between the IGWs and the prescribed diurnal tidal winds are reported
