The enhancement in total electron content (TEC) and critical frequency of the F2-layer (f0F2) have been studied for a chain of five low-latitude stations covering a region with magnetic dip angle varying from 0.6 deg S to 45.00 deg N. It has been found that enhancements in TEC are present simultaneouly at all the five stations and show a good correlation with f0F2 enhancements. The role of neutral wind and E x B drift in producing enhancements by the mechanism of convergence of ionization has been assessed through the solution of a time-dependent equation of the continuity of plasma for the F-region. The computations suggest that the convergence of plasma due to neutral wind and E x B drift can produce enhancements in f0F2 and TEC.
