NICMOS, the near IR camera and multi-object spectrometer was placed in
the Hubble Space Telescope in February 1997. Since then it has ben
carrying out and extensive program of scientific research. This paper
presents the current status and performance of the instrument along with
a sample of the observations that have been carried out to this date.
