NH3 and CH3OH are key molecules in the chemical networks leading to the formation of complex N- and O-bearing molecules, such as CH3CN and CH3OCH3. Despite a number of recent studies, still little is known about their abundances in the solid state and how they relate to those of other N- and O-bearing molecules or to NH3 and CH3OH abundances in the gas phase. This is particularly true in the case of low-mass objects, for which only the recent advent of the Spitzer Space Telescope has allowed us to carry out high sensitivity observations of the ices around low-mass young stellar objects (YSOs). We present here infrared (5-38 μm) spectra obtained with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) onboard Spitzer. These data are part of a survey of interstellar ices in a sample of 41 low-mass YSOs led by A. Boogert. We review the issues encountered with the identification of the different NH3 and CH3OH features and investigate the correlations between these features.
