Newly obtained large-aperture photoelectric BV photometry of NGC 4472 (and NGC 4486) has confirmed the accuracy of Holmberg's photographic magnitudes. The new data are used to rediscuss the problem of NGC 4472 and the non-cosmological component of the Virgo redshift (Δυ), using five separate Hobble diagrams. For Δυ ≲ 300 km s-1, the location of NGC 4472 lies well within the magnitude range defined by more distant giant ellipticals. If Δυ is as great as 500 km s-1, then NGC 4472 is 0.474).75 mag brighter than the mean of other first-ranked galaxies. However, the significance of this deviation ranges from 2.7 σ to only 1.4 σ, depending on the choice of Hubble diagram.
