The nearby edge-on S0 galaxy NGC 5866 is discovered by HST to have distinct dusty vertical filaments from the galactic disk. A short Chandra observation of this S0 galaxy has further shown clear evidences for diffuse soft X-ray-emitting hot gas in and around the galactic bulge. But how the disk activities and outflows affect the hot gas properties and dynamics is still not clear. We propose a 50 ks XMM-Newton observation to measure the density, temperature and metallicity of the hot gas, as well as their spatial distribution in NGC 5866. We will compare these results to the hydrodynamic simulations of the hot gas and further investigate the role of Type Ia SN feedback in galaxy evolution based on both the proposed and archived data.
