Near the radio galaxy NGC 5128 = Cen A, an apparently elliptical galaxy, NGC 5237, is located. However, a closer examination of this galaxy shows a 'blob' in an eccentric position. Because of this blob, the galaxy has an unusual structure which defies an easy classification. The NGC 5237 has a low brightness. The blob is brighter than the boundary zones of the galaxy. Fairall (1981) obtained for the galaxy a radial velocity of only 100 km/sec. In connection with this result, it is concluded that NGC 5237 must belong to the Local Group of galaxies. NGC 5237 has a diameter of approximately 400 pc and is located at a distance of 1 Mpc. The galaxy appears to occupy an intermediate position between elliptical and irregular dwarf systems with low brightness.
