New calculations indicate that the Drobyshevsky and Yuferev (1974) mechanism for the pumping of magnetic flux at the base of a stellar convection zone is radically altered in the case of high magnetic Reynolds number. As a result, the process is not likely to be operating in the sun in the form originally described, although the present, revised mechanism may be more effective in maintaining magnetic fields at the bottom of the convecting layer.
