Seven new OH sources have been discovered during a search out of the galactic plane for 1612-MHz emitters which might be OH/IR stars. Most of the sources have 1612-MHz characteristics of OH/IR stars but no obvious optical or infrared counterparts. It is suggested that such sources are distant long-period variables since the velocity separations of the 1612-MHz components of the sources are similar to those of OH-emitters identified as long-period variables. The present results indicate that future OH surveys should not be confined only to the galactic plane or to observations of bright infrared sources.
