Scientific paper

Data on crater-formation mechanics are used to develop a model for the interior structure of meteorite craters. The proposed model includes an outer and an inner fragmentation zone. A mechanism involving the tectonic and geologic conditions in an impact area is suggested for the formation of such units as underground billows, annular uplifts, and central uplifts.
