Recent studies of pulse nulling using sensitive new Arecibo observations provide some surprising conclusions. Nulls can be detected with unprecedented reliability and their binary patterns tested using simple statistical measures. Significantly non-random and random null distributions are found in a number of pulsars. Sputtering, weak polarized emission and incomplete nulling is also observed.
