Scientific paper
This paper describes a new-generation multifunctional system for astronavigation, designed for the new X-ray orbiting observatory Spectr-Rentgen-Gamma. The design characteristics of this star tracker system and the requirements taken into account for its design are described, together with the star field analysis software. The system is shown to permit relatively high accuracy and fast performance in different modes of operation (i.e., tracking of point sources, tracking extended sources, and optical navigation).
