The Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) is owned andoperated by the University of Sydney. It currently operates as a continuum instrument at 843 MHz with sub arcmin resolution and excellent brightness sensitivity (1 sigma rms noise is about 1 mJy/beam). The major science project nearing completion is an imaging survey of the southern sky (SUMSS). In particular, the southern Galactic Plane is being surveyed out to a latitude of ± 10 degrees and a catalogue of small diameter sources is in preparation. Correlation of these results with high radio frequency and mid-infrared data will enable classification of the Galactic sources as part of a project to study the distribution of emerging star formation regions and to locate possible young supernova remnants. In parallel, a new signal pathway is being laid over the existing infrastructure, to produce a new low-frequency spectral line capability, with full polarisation and wide-field imaging capability. Initially, the instrument will target red-shifted hydrogen in absorption at z~0.7, as an intermediate stage. The first project will be a blind study of all sources in a region of about 2000 square degrees. This new facility will use innovative high-speed digital signal processing techniques to prototype technology and pathfinder science as part of the SKA project. Some recent results and a progress report on future projects are presented.
