Recently developed flight techniques, utilizing various combinations of Venus and Earth gravity-assist, offer the prospect of increasing launch vehicle delivery capabilities for outer planet missions by 2 to 3 times for the price of additional flight time to phase the planetary alignments. Analytical derivations of the techniques are presented and discussed in relation to direct ballistic flight requirements. Computer data for specific mission opportunities have been generated which confirm the analytical trends and illustrate the performance potential and operational characteristics of the flight techniques. Matters requiring further study are identified and promising areas of investigation are suggested.
