We have carried out N-body/SPH modeling and obtained BVRKs and Hα photometry of the barred galaxy NGC~1530 to investigate the conditions under which H II regions form and their spatial relation to the principal dynamical features of the bar. We find differences between the Hα equivalent widths of the H II regions of the trailing and leading zones of the bar. This result is interpreted in terms of an age effect, which constrains models of massive star formation in bar environments.
