Two state-of-the-art space photography systems are presented: the Galactic Ultrawide Angle Schmidt System, 'GAUSS', which operates over a wavelength range extending far into the VUV and allows selection of different spectral bandwidths, and the Metric Camera Experiment, which employs a commercial aerial survey camera to obtain mapping-applicable images from space. The former will be flown aboard the Space Shuttle during the Spacelab D2 mission; the latter is expected to become an efficient tool for cartographers in developing countries.
