In the study of the influence of the sun on the terrestrial atmosphere it is recommended that daily maps of the surface atmospheric pressure be drawn up and that the time variations of the longitude-averaged dispersion of daily pressure differences near times of strong geomagnetic disturbances be analyzed. Preliminary results in the application of this procedure support the existence of a global effect of the variation of the dispersion of daily pressure differences on the fourth day after the time of a strong geomagnetic disturbance at the latitudes 50, 55, and 60 deg. The amplitude of the effect is about 25%.
