We present here a new method for the calculation of the redistribution function in dense plasmas based on the atomic density matrix formalism. We are able, for the first time, to include both the ion dynamics effects and the consistent coupling between the atomic populations and coherences and the radiative polarizations. This allows us to go beyond the usual approximation of Complete Redistribution. The method is applied to a three-level model relevant for transitions in helium-like ions with a forbidden component.
