The nature of the Galactic unidentified EGRET sources frustratingly remains an enigma three decades after their discovery. No clear picture has emerged yet as to the nature of the objects involved, but neutron star activity in various forms appears as a dominant component. Several candidates have recently emerged from X-ray observations that reinforce the importance of neutron stars as powerful γ-ray sources in binary systems, as isolated pulsars, or as pulsar wind nebulae. In the solar neighborhood, the enhanced rate at which the starburst Gould Belt has produced supernovae for the past few million years and the lack of more convincing candidates strongly suggest pulsars as counterparts to the EGRET sources correlated with the Gould Belt. Off-beam pulsed emission appears as an interesting possibility to match the source counts as well as their flux and spectral distributions. In addition, it is shown here that the population of pulsars born in the Belt exhibits the characteristic Belt signature across the sky over at least 5 Myr despite the dynamical evolution of the Belt and the rapid migration of pulsars. .
