Using the soft-photon approximation, npγ cross sections are calculated in coplanar and noncoplanar geometries in the energy region between 130 MeV and 225 MeV. Our investigation is focused on noncoplanarity effects. Calculated coplanar cross sections are compared with the few available data(see J.L. Matthews invited talk at this meeting) as well as other theoretical calculations. Our investigation demonstrates that noncoplanarity effects are important in the npγ process. This suggests that noncoplanarity effects may be responsible for some of the existing large discrepancies between the coplanar model calculations and the experimental data. The significance and additional implications of our results will be discussed.
