Neutrino emission is known to play an important role in stellar evolution, especially in the late stages when the rate of evolution is almost fully dependent on energy loss via neutrinos. This refers to the stage of steady burning prior to the implosion of the stellar core, and to the process of catastrophic collapse of the core and the cooling of the neutron star which is formed. This paper examines the possibility of the emission of electron neutrino pairs and muon neutrino pairs from nucleon collisions or nuclear transitions. The emission of neutrino pairs due to the collisions of neutrons is found to be significant for the cooling of neutron stars. The emission of neutrino pairs due to nuclear transitions is found to be effective directly before implosion of the core of a hot massive star and at the initial stage of implosion.
