We have constructed a near-infrared 1.0-3.5 microns spectrometer for use with the Hale 5m telescope at Palomar Observatory. The spectrometer has two gratings: a medium resolution grating with lambda /delta lambda ~ 1000 with a 2/3'' slit, and a high resolution grating with lambda /delta lambda ~ 4000 with a 2/3'' s;ot. The spectrometer itself does not have a detector, but rather functions as a reimager, using the current Palomar near-infrared cassegrain camera as a detector. The spectrometer has a slit which is 40'' long and continuously adjustable in width between 0'' and 10''. The spectrometer also has an imaging mode with a maximum field of view of 10''times 40''. This poster presents some first results from the spectrometer, medium resolution 1.24 microns-1.30 microns and 2.09 microns-2.21 microns spectra of the nuclear regions of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4151. Pabeta , Brgamma , [FeII], and HeI lines were seen in the galaxy, including a strong broad ( ~ 7000 km/s) component of Pabeta . Lines were seen spatially extended over 5'' or more, and there are velocity gradients in the lines of more than 300 km/s.
