Hst Proposal Id #7216 Young Stars And Circumstellar Material

Scientific paper

NGC 6611 has been studied in the near infrared by Hillenbrand, et al. {1993, AJ 106 1906} down to K 14.5 {3 solar masses}. This only touches the upper end of YSO population, because the field is confusion-limited from the ground. NICMOS should be able to extend the IMF statistics well into the subsolar-mass range and examine many of the EGGs {evaporating gas globules} seen in WFPC2 images. Three colors in each of the three camera fields provide color and reddening for the IMF study. Narrow band filters isolate Paschen-alpha and H_2 emission.
