We present near infrared (JHK) photometry of 10 IRAS sources from the Point Source Catalog (PSC) with spectral energy distributions consistent with pre-main sequence (PMS) stellar objects and located towards the Lynds (1962) dark clouds L162, L330, L1646, L1647, L1652, L1657 and L1664. Six of the sources are unasso- ciated with previously known members of this evolutionary stage. The presence of near infrared excess, photometric variability and/or association with optical nebulosity supports the interpretation that the ten sources are PMS stars. The bolometric luminosities of the sources are in the range 1.2-83 solar luminosity, corresponding to low to intermediate mass stars (0.5 solar mass less than M less than 3 solar mass). Our results suggest for the first time that star formation takes place in the dark clouds L330 and L1664.
