Results are presented of NIR observations, made at the Beijing Observatory in 1988, 1989, and 1990 of 21 molecular outflow sources and of two young stars with no detected outflow. These results are combined with IRAS and other surface-station observations to analyze spectra of these sources. It is found that the outflow sources had, on average, steeper spectral gradients in the range 2.28-25 microns than the nonoutflow sources. Using a revised blackbody photosphere model, relative contributions to the JHK fluxes by the central young star and the circumstellar envelope are calculated. The results show that most of the young stars associated with molecular outflows are probably T Tauri stars (5000-7000 K) or emission line stars (9000-26,000 K). It is concluded that the molecular outflow sources are young objects that are still embedded deep inside or around the interior of compact cores.
