A method for the assessment of petrochemical composition and geological-petrographical characteristics of rocks from the percent compositions of natural radioactive elements in these rocks was developed using a data base for percent compositions of U, Th, and K and for silica in 948 rock samples belonging to 15 different known petrochemical rock families. The rock families were identified according to the scheme proposed in 1983 by the Petrographical Committee of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Using this approach, the data on U, Th, and K in the Venusian rocks obtained by Venera 8, 9, and 10 and the Vega 1 and 2 were used to classify rocks on the respective landing sites. The classification of the Venusian rocks obtained from the radioactive elements agrees well with characteristics obtained by complete geomorphologic characterization of the Venus surface made at the Venera 9, 10, 13, and 14 landing sites.
