A simplified purely torsional model of a single stage planetary gear set is proposed in this paper. In terms of a limited number of system parameters, closed form expressions for torsional natural frequencies are derived. Through the used of the simplified model, the natural modes obtained are then compared with predictions from a more sophisticated transverse - torsional model.
